Window treatments can transform a room. They provide lots of character, warmth, and style. Window treatments are not just something to block the sun or to be closed only for privacy. If hung the right way, they can make a room feel much bigger and help make a room feel "finished". Here are a few tips to follow to help you transform your room with window treatments:

TIP 1, Choose window treatments with lining: When looking to purchase window treatments, we recommend that you look for window treatments that are lined and interlined. The lining faces the window (if you are inside your home looking out of the window) and is recommended to be an ivory or white, depending on the color of your home. Lined window treatments will help in several ways:

  • Lining provides a cohesive look to the outside of your home. Yes--- the outside. From a curb appeal standpoint, our eye naturally looks for consistency. Lined window treatments help every window look polished and complete. Thin, one paneled window treatments may look cute from the inside, but may make the front of our house look disjointed to onlookers if they are different colors.

  • Lining provides a level of protection from the sun. We think a lot about our skin in terms of skin damage and the same can be true for fabric that gets a lot of sunlight. Thin window treatment panels that are unlined can fade quickly and will not be able to protect other wood or upholstered furniture in your room. Protect the longevity of your home with lining!

  • Interlining is a felt lining that is placed between the base fabric and the lining. It adds weight and makes the draperies hang beautifully. You mainly find these in custom draperies and will allow window treatments to last for decades.

TIP 2, How to hang your window treatments:

  • Always hang your window treatments as HIGH as possible. Window treatments help rooms look taller even if you have a standard height room of 8 feet. Hanging your window treatments as high as possible above your window will help draw your eye up and give the illusion and feel of more height and a bigger room. So don't forget, when you measure to find out the length of the window, consider this tip and don't forget to measure from the highest point you can (if the space allows) to make them longer.

  • Always hang your window treatments to the floor. Very simply, this just looks better. Having a window treatment that hangs halfway to the bottom of the floor looks choppy and will create the illusion that your room is shorter and smaller.

TIP 3, Color psychology for window treatments:

As previously discussed in our blog post about choosing the perfect wall color, color psychology will play a role in what color to choose for your window treatments. Window treatments can add a punch of color and help bring the look of a room together with the rest of your furniture. The can also greatly dictate the mood and tone of the room! To learn more about color psychology, please read the previously mentioned blog post.

We hope this helps! Happy decorating!
